At one point in time humans had a fear. This fear stemmed from Halley’s comet looking like groups of spacecraft. Science has since debunked this dear but humans now have a new fear. This fear is more reasonable. The impact of a comet or any object in space on earth could destroy all human life or disrupt it greatly. Sagan says it is inevitable that this will occur, not in the near future but at some point. This is interesting to me because there are so many other things that could ruin human life such as disease, natural disaster, or other things. Humans give no attention to the things that could really hurt them that science is already proved could happen even sooner than this. Humans have this weird thing where they fear unnecessarily. Sagan also mentions these other things that could kill humans including things such as nuclear war and climate change.
Venus is known as hell. This comes from the images that we’ve seen and the science that shows the atmosphere has trapped heat making it extremely hot like hell. This is interesting because I honestly did not know any of this. I would like to think that this isn’t due to ignorance of the subject but rather its not talked about enough to be a general fact or general knowledge. He says we have landed objects on Venus six times which should make it a big enough deal to be talked about. The climate change of Venus proves that the climate of any planet can change. This literally proves that climate change is real. Considering out technological abilities and advances in our world we have to use these things in moderation or our own climate could change dramatically. We have a burden to keep our climate where its at or at least close enough to keep humans alive. Earth is perceived to be our heaven when compared to Venus. If we don’t start making changes now, it is evident we will end up like Venus, or be in our own hell.
I find it extremely fascinating that Carl Sagan talked about these problems of nuclear war and pollution and climate change way back when the Cosmos was created. All of these are problems right now in our world and they’ve only grown and will keep growing. People are ignorant to science and the facts it tells us and have just ignored all these facts. Soon enough people will have a major regret that we didn’t stop our actions and change them when we had a chance but rather we will suffer the consequences that science has predicted centuries ago and continues to prove. Stay tuned for next weeks episode discussion.
